Having taken these shared beliefs and these questions as the starting point for our reflection, we are now able to affirm further significant agreement on the place of Mary in the life and doctrine of the Church.
Such authoritative teaching is a racic exercise of the calling and responsibility of the body of bishops to teach and affirm the faith. We are agreed that, within the constraints set down in this teaching to ensure that the honour paid to Christ remains pre-eminent, such private devotion is acceptable, though never required of believers.
This states that “The Roman Catholic Church teaches that the ministry of the Bishop of Rome [the Pope] as universal primate is in accordance with Christ’s will for the Church and an essential element of maintaining it in unity and truth. Thus, the exercise of ministerial authority within the Church, not least by those entrusted with the ministry of episcopehas a radically missionary dimension. The consciousness of human frailty in the exercise of authority ensures that Christian ministers remain open to criticism and renewal and above all to exercising authority according to the example and mind of Christ.
Canonical legislation now requires lay men and women, persons in the religious life, deacons and priests to play a part in parochial and diocesan pastoral councils, diocesan synods and a variety of other bodies, whenever these are convened.
This truth has to be transmitted documentss received anew by the faithful in all ages and in all places throughout the world, in response to the diversity and complexity of human experience. In its continuing life, the Church seeks and receives the guidance from the Holy Spirit that keeps its teaching faithful to apostolic Tradition. The process of tradition entails the constant and perpetual reception and communication of the revealed Word of God in many varied circumstances and continually changing times.

These ministries do not compete with the unique mediation of Christ, but rather serve it and have their source within it.
The representatives of each Communion here focus on respective felt difficulties within their own ecclesial cultures, processes, structures, and associated ecclesiologies, and ask how these difficulties might be helped by a process of receptive learning from relative strengths in the theology and practice of the other Communion. The challenge and responsibility for those with authority within the Church is so to exercise their ministry that they promote the unity of the whole Church in faith and life in a way that enriches rather than diminishes the legitimate diversity of local churches. Mary is marked out from the beginning as the one chosen, called and graced by God through the Holy Documengs for the task that lay ahead of her. Significant Developments in Both Communions All these synodal institutions provide the possibility of a growing awareness by both local bishops and the Bishop of Rome of ways of working together in a stronger communion.

The Gift of Authority

In every Christian who is seeking to be faithful to Christ and is fully incorporated into the life of the Church, there is a sensus fidei. Our hope is that, as we share in the one Spirit by which Mary was prepared and sanctified for her unique vocation, we may together participate with her and all the saints in the unending praise of God.
Growing into this faith may be for some an experience of questioning and struggle. Our hope is that the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion will recognize a common faith in the agreement concerning Mary which we here offer.

The Commission poses some questions frankly but in the conviction that we need the support of one another douments responding to them.
