Sure they have 10 different sculpts, which are expensive to make, but I don’t really care.

It is obvious that FFG is trying to get as much cash as possible out of this. Battlelore is an old franchise and sooner or later it will lose its sales potential. Battle Savvy Red unit Vs Green unit becomes a slaughter.

Those are some bad odds for the green unit which will most likely be battled back THEN hit again when his opponent has a turn. Leaders One aspect that I haven’t seen anyone discuss is that this expansion allows for people to create interesting leaders. As I understand it, in Ancients all leaders are exactly the same.

Here, you can easily make leaders that are distinct from each other. The nominal play style is suggested to be role-playing light, but it’s just as easy to create custom battles with custom leaders. Joan of Arc doesn’t have to have exactly the same characteristics as Richard the Lionhearted or William Wallace. That’s pretty cool, IMO. Battle Savvy I’ve only played once with this rule change, so it’s too early for me to say much.

However, all this grousing strikes me as unjustified. Borg has been playing this way for years, and I’d say he knows what he’s doing. Ancients uses this system, and by all accounts that game isn’t broken.

Sounds to me like people are saying “I hate change” without really taking the time to understand the new system.

Battlelore: Heroes review – with Tom Vasel

Battle Savvy clearly changes tactics, but does it make the game worse? A green unit shouldn’t really have been charging straight into a red unit in the past either. Green guys are fast, not tough. They should be used as part of a concentrated attack where ideally they circle around back to cut-off retreat.

I’m willing to give Borg the benefit of the doubt on this, even if it does mean I’ll have to change my tactics. Bathlelore on the right track but you’re using the maximum ideal combinations and not accounting for redundancy. However, the big difference here is how the Leaders in Ancients are integrated into the Command aspect of the game – I was a little bit hoping that Heroes would introduce some command cards similar to the Leadership cards in Ancients, but do certainly enjoy the role that Heroes play in BL as is.

You think that Btatlelore killed BattleLore? Just look at BattleLore: The contents are a joke and the price looks like one. I wish it were cheaper, but it’s not.

Napoleon had a great quote: I also don’t understand the cost and market structure that’s driving their decisions. I chose to assume they are doing the best they can on this front.

While I agree with some of the comments here, I often wonder why nobody has acted. We use undead armies, Orcs, Elves, more classical dwarves etc And army lists in full color to match.

Ancients to also crack up the light units which are often useless in the rules as is. I love Battlelore, but I would indeed love to see some serious expansions with new races. I think they would sell better than heroes or more goblins. I heroew agree with the fact that some strange choices were made like the dwarves on cows I would ‘ve loved to see bear cavalry.

Chariots would have been nice. I have the Heroes and will buy the Dragons – especially for the Hydra.

Not sure about the creatures but at some point I will surely get them either thru a purchase or trade. I was dusting off my Battlelore set after playing Online M44, and came upon this post.

I just wanted to add, for those also reading this gattlelore, that the Battle Savvy rules do not replace the rules for all adventures, but is a rule for more battle experienced units. When it is used, it is mentioned heroe the scenario. I don’t see the issue if some scenarios have different rules.
